Emily head shot

My interest in wellness and holistic medicine started at a very young age. Pursuing this interest, I attended St.Croix Center For The Healing Arts massage school in the year 2000. With a passionate young heart I decided to make an attempt at entrepreneurship and started my first business, Exceptional Relief Massage, in 2002. After a very successful 9 years in business, my mind and body needed to dive deeper into the healing arts. Wanting an extension of my career as a bodyworker, I chose to study Chinese Medicine and received a Masters of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2016 and promptly opened To The Point Acupuncture and Tai Chi. Having been a bodyworker for more that 20 years, my goal is to create a safe space for each individual and work with their needs, meeting them wherever they are at on any given day. Holding this space allows for a person to be at ease and reach true healing. Working with Qi (sounds like chi) and deep communication as medicine, I am able to work with all elements of a persons mind, body, and spirit. With a massage therapy background, one area of wellness I focus on is pain management, with an additional focus on women’s health and mental/emotional health. As the owner and director of Healing Roots Wellness Center, my goal is to create a wholesome community of wellness providers and wellness seekers. Knowing that there are many paths to healing and that collaborative care has a big impact, I want to offer a diverse way to make healing available and accessible. We are on this planet to connect, love, and support each other. I believe this is the only way we are able to fully thrive as human beings. Humbly holding space for practitioners and recipients to receive emotional and physical nourishment is the basis of why I decided to open Healing Roots Wellness Center. In my spare time, you will find me hiking, riding bicycle, or kayaking with my sweet husband, playing with my dogs, teaching tai chi in the park, deep in a philosophical conversation, or laughing with a friend or loved one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q ~ How did you get certified?

A ~ I studied through the Integrative Women's Health Institute based in Connecticut.

Q ~ How do I know if my symptoms are perimenopausal or not?

A ~ The only real way to know for sure is to track your hormones. I work with certain hormone trackers to help discover the details of your body's status.

Q ~ Do I need to be perimenopausal to get benefits from these programs?

A ~ Absolutely not! Whether you have yet to reach perimenopause or you have surpassed it, regulating your hormones through lifestyle medicine is very effective!

Q ~ How will your approach help my symptoms?

A ~ Every chemical/hormone in our body is connected through a cascading process. Our stress chemicals affect our sex hormones. Our daily blood sugar levels affect our stress chemicals affecting our sex hormones. Our stress levels affect our gut microbiome affecting our food cravings affecting our blood sugar levels.... In other words, our lifestyle dramatically affects our hormone levels.

Q ~ How quickly will I see results?

A ~ Every body is different and responds differently to effort. Some people might see change in one month, some might see change in 3 months or more.

Q ~ Why do I need to do a 3 month program?

A ~ Because the female body runs on a 28-30 day cycle, it takes at least a few months of effort to achieve regulation.

Q ~ What is cycle syncing?

A ~ Female hormones function on a 28-30 day cycle, an infradian rhythm(vs male hormones on running on a 24 hour cycle, a circadian rhythm). Cycle syncing is living your life according to that cycle. Each hormone wants different types of nutrition and can handle different types of stress. When we sync up what/when we eat and how we live our lives, we nourish and support our hormones optimizing our bodies.

Q ~ Is it possible to cycle sync if I don't have a cycle or I have an irregular cycle?

A ~ Absolutely! The infradian rhythm is still present even if you no longer have a monthly bleed. If you no longer menstruate, it is simply suggested to opt into syncing up with the moon cycle, but you can choose any start point for a new rhythm in life. If you have an irregular cycle, getting in a cycle syncing pattern can really help to regulate your cycle. It just might take some finagling of the rhythm at first.

Q ~ Do you provide hormone replacement therapy?

A ~ No, but I am trained to recognize when a person needs to go that route and have referral processes with practitioners who do prescribe HRT. I do have extensive training in herbs and supplements and will offer and prescribe them when appropriate.
