Service Description

Join a variety of Healing Roots instructors to explore yoga's foundations! Spend time exploring breath, alignment, modifications, styles, philosophy, and more! This series is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to reconnect with the basics in a mindful, supportive setting. Week 1: An Introduction to the Ancient Practice of Yoga with Julie We begin this series with a welcoming introduction to the foundations of yoga. We'll briefly explore the roots and philosophy of this ancient practice, learn some key postures and alignment principles, and discover how breath, movement, and mindfulness come together to create balance on and off the mat. Week 2: Props: How to Deepen Your Practice with Bairet Yoga props are useful tools for everyone! Come learn why yoga props are so critical to any practice and how they support the body in a variety of poses. We will learn about using yoga blocks, straps, bolsters, meditation cushions, blankets, chairs, using a wall and more. We will experience different poses with and without supports to help you better understand your body's unique needs. Week 3: Sun Salutations and Flow with Heather Sun Salutations are a foundational piece of many yoga styles and practices! In this class, we will learn about and practice moving through different types sun salutations--putting emphasis on breath and alignment and exploring different modifications and variations of these flows. Week 4: Week 4 - Chanting and Mantra - Power of Voice and Hatha style Yoga with Deb Participants of this class will be able to understand and be comfortable listening to offered chanting sounds in a verbal offered sound bath experience. Participants also will be able to understand the concepts of what a Hatha yoga practice through concepts offered and asana (guided posture) practice. Near the ending of the class, participants will be guided through chanting a mantra together. Week 5: Breathwork, Meditation, & Connection with Lakken Moving your awareness inward or quieting your mind may seem intimidating, uncomfortable, or even impossible sometimes. This class will focus on breathwork to bring your awareness back to your body, calm your mind, and bring relaxation. We will move through types of meditation, positioning, and small steps to quiet the mind. Week 6: Full Practice w/Heather Join us in the studio to put what you've learned into practice! Move through centering, breathwork, a gentle flow, and seal in your series with meditation and savasana.
