Service Description

Kīrtan is a practice within the path of bhakti yoga, the path of love or devotion. It is a way of opening the heart through sound, mantra, and shared intention. Through chanting we are able to connect more deeply to the truth of what we are. In this offering, we come together in community to chant mantras that invite presence, connection, and joy. No musical experience is needed; your voice, exactly as it is, is enough. This practice is both grounding and uplifting, offering a space to soften, to celebrate, and to remember our shared humanity as we join our voices in reverence and celebration. We will begin by grounding and centering together before moving into Kirtan (call and response chanting). As we close, we will ease out of the practice and relax into the resonance of the experience, taking time to reflect and connect. The intention is to create a spacious, welcoming container where the beauty and resonance of our voices can unfold naturally. Meet your guide, Casey Schellhorn: My journey with yoga began in 2018 when I became captivated by the physical āsana (postural) practice of yoga. This motivated me to receive my 200 hour RYT certification in 2021 from The Yoga Room in Eau Claire, WI. During my 200 hour training my curiosity was piqued by the many different aspects of yoga that I was being exposed to. Following my training, I sought to go deeper and began to explore these aspects on my own. The culmination of this exploration led me to the work of Christopher “Hareesh” Wallis, a scholar-practitioner of Classic Tantra with whom I continue to study and deepen my practice. Classical Tantra gave rise to the Haṭha yoga traditions that form the roots of much of modern yoga. Classical Tantra aims at the experiential recognition of our deepest nature and the natural, effortless expression of that recognition in every aspect of our lives. I work to embody this aim in my own life, and I feel called to support others as they awaken to this possibility. One of the most meaningful ways I embody this aim is through chanting. My initial study and training with Sacred Sound Lab helped root me more deeply in the tradition of mantra and kīrtan, and my ongoing study with them continues to strengthen my desire and devotion to share this sacred tradition with others. I am continually moved by the way music opens the heart, quiets the mind, and brings people together in shared presence. It is a privilege to hold space for this practice.
